New Accounts | Home | Top | Index | The System Administrator will assign random, unique passwords for new account services. GIAC-assigned passwords are conveyed to the ISP via non-secure e-mail. For enhanced security, GIAC recommends that you change your password(s) to confidential values. Most passwords are case-sensitive, i.e., an uppercase "A" will not match a lowercase "a". Numeric characters and special characters are also legal in passwords. Passwords must be between four (4) and eight (8) characters in length. If you need help selecting a secure password, look here. Passwords are stored on Greenbelt.COM servers in encrypted form, i.e., once entered, passwords are not readable. For this reason, it may be necessary for GIAC or the ISP Tech Support staff to request your password(s) in order to help you diagnose a particular problem. Should this occur, GIAC recommends that you change your password(s) afterward. Password Changes | Home | Top | Index | You may change your password(s), either by contacting ISP Tech Support or by using the online facility provided by the ISP. To identify subscribers who request password changes, the ISP may ask for your "date-of-birth". The date you should provide to the ISP to identify yourself is the membership date shown on your yellow configuration sheet, i.e., your GIAC "date-of-birth". Connect Password | Home | Top | Index | The connect password is used by your PPP dialer program. Mailbox Password | Home | Top | Index | The mailbox password is used by the receive portion (POP3) of your e-mail client program. Website Password | Home | Top | Index | The website password is used by your file transfer (FTP) program. Service Suspensions | Home | Top | Index | The System Administrator will control the ON/OFF status of each subscriber account service. If a service suspension becomes necessary (for nonpayment or other reason), the System Administrator will request such action by e-mail to the ISP. When appropriate, the System Administrator will request subsequent service reactivations or terminations by e-mail. GIAC will not accept responsibility for any service that is reactivated without System Administrator authorization. (With regard to service suspensions, any GIAC Officer is authorized to serve as alternate to the System Administrator in cases of his/her absence.)
