Reformed Church in America Considers Second Vote on Salvation Affirmation
Because of a typo, the Reformed Church in America (RCA) is considering a second vote on a proposal requiring RCA clergy to affirm annually that salvation from God is "by grace through faith in the perfect work of the Lord Jesus Christ alone." In the text sent to the church's classes – its regional units – the words "through faith" were accidentally omitted. As of April 8, 23 of the classes had disapproved the proposal and 23 had approved it. Approval by 31 classes was required.
The denomination's governing body, the General Synod, ordered the original vote after an RCA minister in Michigan taught that non-Christians could receive salvation in ways other than through Jesus Christ.
