GTA Membership & Tournament Fees: No Increases For
2009
Membership is $10 for
the season. Socials are free and activities are discounted for members.
You'll receive advance notice of GTA events by email.
If you participate in 2 or more activities this year, you save $$$ by
joining! The application is available at the GTA website. Membership pays!
The tournament draws will remain mostly
ability-oriented with self-rating into A, B, or C levels. An

In an effort to "green" Greenbelt tennis, look for new
recycling bins
to be installed soon on the Braden Field Courts - please place your
used tennis ball canisters and beverage bottles (and anything else
recyclable) in the containers.
Who knows, we may try to bring a program to Greenbelt to recycle or
refurbish the tennis balls!

Last year, the GTA received the Jim Cassal's Community Service Award
($1,000.00) to conduct a free Tennis Clinic/Program for kids.
We sponoserd a very popular clinic last fall, and this April we will be
sponsoring
another 8-week program
with the assistance of Coach Nic
Askew and the Prince George's Tennis & Education Foundation
starting in April.
Hats off to Cam MacQueen and Bill Wikerson for making this happen.

Braden Court Resurfacing & Lights
We've been told by the City of Greenbelt that Courts 1-4 at Braden
Field will be resurfaced and new lights will be installed sometime this
summer. The City has asked us if we could show that there was really a
demand
for lights on all 8 courts.
You can send a note to Greenbelt Recreation Department Director Hank
Irving or City Manager Mike McLaughlin if you want to let them know
how you feel.

Volunteer: Improve your game and make new
friends
We've expanded the
steering committee to get more people actively involved in running our
events.
This Year's Steering Committee includes Ellen Carter, June Dea, Al
Hargrave, Emmett Jordan, Cam MacQueen, Rich Majewski, Horace Martin, and Bill
Wilkerson.
We need volunteer directors & staff for each tournament. Please consider
volunteering for a couple of afternoons if you can help out. You
might improve your game
and make some new tennis buddies!
